It has been 35 years since Volkswagen introduced the Golf GTI. The GTI has become a motoring icon and symbolises what a hot hatch should be. The GTI has always been practical, relatively cheap, easy to maintain, powerful and a great drive. For many years now there has not been anything in the same class to really challenge the Golf GTI ? it has a cult following with forums and enthusiast clubs all around the world. To celebrate 35 years of the Golf GTI, VW has unveiled a new more powerful and aggressive looking GTI model ? the VW Golf GTI Edition 35. The special edition model was previewed at the Worthersee tuning festival in June and is expected to go on sale in the UK towards the end of this year. The Golf GTI Edition 35 will have a 2.0 litre four cylinder engine, which is turbo charged and can produce 235PS - which is 25 more than the standard GTI model. The special edition model is front engined and front wheel drive. 0-62mph is completed in 6.6 seconds with a top speed of 153mph which returning 34.9mpg on the combined cycle and emits only 189g/km CO2. Visually the 35 is distinguishable by its new side skirts and revised front bumper, alongside bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. Other features include black door mirror casings, rear windows with dark tinted glass and rear tinted LED light clusters. The Volkswagen Golf GTI edition 35 has a starting price of ?27,525 for the manual three door model. Like all Golfs the special edition GTI can be serviced at the VW Golf GTI servicing in Chalfont garage.
