The Nissan Invitation

The Nissan Invitation

Japanese car maker Nissan has been at the forefront of mini and crossover SUVs, the Nissan line-up is now primarily made up of small SUV cars. The Nissan Qashqai and the Juke are good examples, one of the very few traditional hatchback models is the Leaf, but even that is an all electric model – so not very "traditional". Nissan is also at the forefront of all electric vehicles, determined to make its electric models practical.

After the success of the Juke Nissan has become even more determined to dominate the crossover segment. At this year Geneva Motors Show the Japanese firm will be unveiling the Nissan Invitation, a replacement for the Nissan Note. The Invitation model goes to show that Nissan plans to continue launching progressive crossover designs into Europe's mainstream market sectors.

When it starts arriving at showrooms the new Note replacement will sit alongside the company's funky little Juke crossover and the economy-minded Micra hatchback to cement Nissan's commitment to the fast-expanding B-segment market. No doubt there will be high demand for this car as people look to trade in their used Nissan in Kent.

As with all Nissan model ranges the new Note will have an ultra frugal model it will use the supercharged 1.0-litre engine already used in the Micra – which will emit less than 100g/km of CO2. All models of the new Note replacement will don the Pure Drive badge, which is only available to the highest-efficiency Nissan models.

The Invitation concept was created in Japan, but it will be adapted for European production in Nissan's design centre in Cranfield, Bedfordshire here in the UK. It will have "a refreshingly open cabin" and have equipment rarely seen in this sector such as an Around View Monitor system, which uses four cameras to provide a 'helicopter view' useful for reversing and parallel parking.
