Leigh Fibers buys post-industrial recycler

The acquisition is being handled through affiliate Leigh Delaware Holdings LLC and involves ICE Recycling’s Lake City, S.C., operations. Leigh Fibers is headquartered in Wellford, S.C. “Leigh’s acquisition of ICE Recycling will benefit customers of both companies. While the companies will remain separate, we have broadened and deepened our resources, improving our capabilities and expertise,” said Heidi Lehner, president of Leigh Delaware Holdings, in a statement. ICE Recycling founder Larry T. Gay Jr. will remain as president of that company, which will be managed separately. Co-owner Butch Crawford remains during the transition but will leave “to pursue outside interests,” Leigh said. ICE Recycling started in 2008 as a post-industrial nylon recycler and has expanded over the years to include other plastics, metals, paper and electronic waste. Leigh Fibers operates the nation’s largest textile recycling plant and has the capacity to handle up to 350 million pounds of synthetic and natural fiber annually.
