Igloo Products Corp. is continuing to build up its U.S. manufacturing and production capacity, adding 250 workers in late 2013 and opening a new warehouse and distribution center in Texas.

Although the Katy, Texas-based company did not specify what the new jobs would be, it currently lists openings for workers in injection molding and blow molding and for tool and die makers.

"Our new hiring is a direct result of our continued growth strategy for Igloo," said Gary Kiedaisch, Igloo chairman and CEO, in a September news release. "As we expand our product lines, we need more people in critical areas to ensure we deliver the products people want and value."

The consumer products company is best known for its line of coolers. Igloo says it is the top brand in sales and the top brand in consumer recognition. It estimates it makes 20 million products in Katy each year.

The current hiring expansion comes on top of an increase of 50 jobs in 2012 as Igloo brought rotational molding capabilities in-house. In August it introduced a new rotationally molded series of coolers called the Sportsman.

The opening of a 420,000-square-foot distribution center and warehouse in Katy will bring Igloo's base there up to 1.8 million square feet of production, development and shipping space. The site also will be able to accommodate future expansion, the company said.
