2012 Facelift For The Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius, the pioneer of hybrid cars has been around since 1997. Along with the Honda Civic Hybrid the Prius has helped carve out hybrid technology. As well as Toyota learning from the Prius' hybrid drive other manufacturers have been able to take inspiration from it and develop their own. The Prius has been a great success story for Toyota and has helped the Japanese brand capture a large portion of the automotive industry. We are currently in the third generation model of the Prius, it was launched in 2009 and more than 20,000 units have been sold since then in the UK. By September 2011 more than 1 million units of the third generation model had been sold worldwide! Toyota has continued to develop the hybrid drive-train, tuning it for perfection. The third generation model has received a facelift for this year; new face lifted models will go on sale in the UK in March – in time for the 1st plate change of the year. The new model will be distinguishable from the used Toyota in Gateshead as it will have a new-look nose and eight new exterior paint finishes. As well as cosmetic changes Toyota has enhanced the steering, ride and overall vehicle dynamics to sharpen the drive. Depending on the wheel size option the Prius emits only 89g/km in CO2 emissions and according to official Toyota figures a combined cycle fuel economy of 72.4 mpg. The new Prius continues to be highly fuel efficient and emits very little CO2. A new range of Prius models are due to go on sale in the UK later in the year, a new 7-seat hybrid will be launched – the first 7 seat hybrid to go on sale. There will also be a plug-in variant of the Prius, which will be even more fuel efficient!
